Carrie Power suffered from Cystic Fibrosis and passed away in August, 2001 aged 17 years. Carrie had always wanted to achieve a good education but the system was against her. It became incredibly difficult for Carrie when she was admitted to hospital so frequently. Carrie had a double lung transplant in February, 2000 at Papworth Hospital. She managed to get all of her GCSEs and AS grades but sadly she was in intensive care at Papworth when her AS results came through. For Carrie, her education made her the same as every other teenager and that is what she wanted.
The foundation was established in her memory to help other young people who face similar educational challenges. We believe every young person deserves access to quality education regardless of their circumstances, just as Carrie believed education made her feel equal to her peers.
Today, our foundation bridges the gap for young people who struggle to attend traditional school settings regularly, providing direct funding for alternative educational opportunities and ensuring that no young person's potential is limited by their circumstances.
Every young person deserves the chance to reach their full potential, regardless of the challenges they face.
“The mission of the Carrie Power Foundation is to offer funding for tuition. The funding can be for academic courses and qualifications or for other achievements that can improve future opportunities.”
There are so many young people who are struggling and often through no fault of their own. The charity hopes to improve the long-term outcomes for many young people who have not been able to attend school on a regular basis.
Funding for academic courses, qualifications, and specialised programs that adapt to individual learning needs.
